Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How will the 2020 event adjust in response to Covid-19

The safety of our guests, horses and athletes is our top priority. To create the best possible experience, we are implementing new measures that will allow for maximum enjoyment of the five races.

Q: Where is Steeplechase of Charleston located?

A: Steeplechase of Charleston is located at The Stono Ferry Racetrack. 5000 Old York Course, Hollywood, SC 29449

See the map below or click here for google maps directions.

Q: Are dogs allowed?

A: No, to ensure a safe environment for all horses and patrons, we do not allow pets.

Q: Will there be food?

A: Guests will pack their own food and beverages to be enjoyed on race day; special catering services are available for hire for individuals or groups purchasing hospitality tents.

Q: Will I get the same Tailgate spot I had last year?

A: We cannot guarantee the exact spot you had in 2019, however, you are able to select the spot you had last year or a nearby tailgate using our new interactive map.

Q: What happens if it rains?

A: We hope for beautiful weather as the races will take place! In the event of a true weather emergency, we recommend you sign up for our newsletter to receive updates. New parking, ingress and egress, track management and on-site plans have been designed to lessen potential effects of inclimate weather that might occur leading up to the race day.

Q: How do I get a tent?

A: You can reserve a Home Stretch Premium Tailgating package online that includes a tent. This is (in our opinion) the premiere way to experience Steeplechase of Charleston with friends and family! We do not sell tents for tailgating spots, you may bring one as long as it is secure.

Q: What time should I get there?

A: Gates open at 8:00am. People typically start lining up an hour before. Races do not start until 1:00pm, so there is plenty of time to arrive, park, unpack, and shop before the horses run.

Q: Is handicapped parking available?

A:  Yes, handicapped parking is located in front of the pool at 5000 Old York Course. Click here to view our event map.  The event is held on a grass field which is best navigated with turf wheels.

Q: Can I purchase additional parking passes?

A: No, only 1 parking pass is issued per tailgating space.

Q: Is there outside parking where people can walk into the field?

A: No, guests attending with you in your tailgate space at a later time are able to arrive via a ride share (Uber, Lyft, etc) and can enter at gate 2. They must have their QR code/ticket with them to enter the event.

Q: How do I become a vendor or sponsor for Steeplechase of Charleston?

A: Your tailgate will include (1) 11×22 ft Tailgating Space. If you choose to bring your own tent, please make sure your tent is properly secured. Please note, guests bringing their own tent have a $20 tent fee added to their total. If you’d like us to set up your space for you, an optional “Tailgate” package can be added to your purchase. The Tailgate Package will include 10×10 Ft Canopy (no walls), (1) Banquet table with (1) Linen and (4) Chairs.

Q: Can I bring chairs for infield viewing with general admissions? Can I attend the event without purchasing a Tailgate space?

A: No, there are NO General Admission tickets this year, only tailgating or hospitality tent options. The only ticketing options this year are Tailgate spaces. This is to adhere to CDC guidelines and Social Distancing protocols. If you chose to leave your tailgate spot, you will be required to wear your mask and practice social distancing guidelines.

Q:  Can I buy Steeplechase of Charleston tickets on race day?

A: Due to the limited amount of tailgating spots, we do ask that these are purchased ahead of race day, as we will have no Will Call onsite.

Q: Are children included in the 5 tickets?

A: Yes, every person attending the event must have a ticket to be scanned upon entry. This includes children of all ages.
