Meet the Team: Joe Hawks

Welcome back to our series “Meet the Team”, where you can get to know key members of our fantastic production team.

This week we are spotlighting, Production Director for Medalist Sports, Joe Hawks. Help us welcome him!

What makes the Steeplechase of Charleston a unique and memorable horse racing event in your opinion?

Steeplechase of Charleston offers an up close view of horse racing that wouldn’t be possible at many of the larger venues. The opportunities for fans to be up close and personal with the races adds to the excitement and energy of the day.

Could you share a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the preparation and planning that goes into organizing such a grand event like the Steeplechase?

I work with the Medalist Sports team as the Production Director, meaning I spend months of time focused on creating an enjoyable venue experience through designing map layouts, recruiting vendors, and collaborating with the P&C team on making their vision come to life.

What’s the most heartwarming or unexpected story you’ve encountered involving horses or attendees at the Steeplechase?

I wasn’t expecting Corgi Racing to be as big of a spectacle as it was last year, and I’m looking forward to watching those races return this year.

If you could invite any famous horse, fictional or real, to participate in the Steeplechase, who would it be and why?

Lil Sebastian (RIP) “You’re 5000 Candles in the Wind”

Lastly, in a fun twist, if the Steeplechase of Charleston had an official theme song, what kind of music or artist do you think would capture the spirit of the event?

Queen

As we peel back the curtain on the Steeplechase of Charleston organizers, the spotlight will soon shine on another member of our dynamic team. Keep an eye out for the next installment!
